How to Keep Your Fitness Routine Alive During the Holidays

The holidays can throw off your routine with travel, events, and extra commitments. But staying active doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. With a little intention and the right mindset, you can maintain your fitness, protect your progress, and feel your best through the season.

Set a Manageable Plan

Choose a realistic number of workouts each week based on your schedule—maybe 2–3 instead of your usual routine. This keeps you consistent without adding stress. When you set clear expectations ahead of time, you’re more likely to follow through and less likely to feel guilty about not doing “more.”

Choose Quick, Effective Workouts

Holidays often mean shorter windows of free time, which makes CrossFit-style training perfect. A 10–15 minute AMRAP or EMOM with foundational movements—squats, push-ups, burpees, lunges, sit-ups—delivers plenty of intensity in a short amount of time. These quick sessions help you break a sweat, maintain conditioning, and feel accomplished without rearranging your entire day.

Stay Flexible with Movement

Some days you might not get a workout in—and that’s okay. Instead, look for simple ways to move: take a walk after meals, stretch in the morning, play outside with kids, or do a short mobility flow. These small choices keep your body active and help counter the extra sitting, travel, and holiday meals that come with the season.

Fuel to Feel Your Best

Holiday eating doesn’t have to derail your progress. Stay hydrated, keep protein on your plate, and balance rich foods with some fruits and veggies when you can. Enjoy your favorite seasonal treats guilt-free—you’ll feel better overall when you nourish your body and support your energy for training.

Lean on Accountability

Staying consistent is easier with support. Invite a friend to join a workout, drop into a class together before an event, or check in with someone who keeps you on track. A bit of accountability helps you show up even when motivation dips, and community makes every workout feel more enjoyable.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Holiday schedules don’t have to derail your fitness. Keep workouts simple, stay flexible, and prioritize small, consistent actions. A little effort adds up—and it’s more than enough to keep your routine alive through the busiest season of the year.
